Welcome to our Weekly Mindfulness and Meditation Drop-In Group
This group is open to all*, whether you are curious about mindfulness, feeling stressed out, or wanting to support an ongoing mindfulness practice. The weekly sessions are facilitated by trained mindfulness teachers and are comprised of a mixture of guided meditations, group discussion and short talks. Our intention is for the group to be open and accessible to all. The content is non-religious (all faiths are welcome) and we have chosen a venue located just 5 minutes walk from Woking train station. A fee of £8 in cash is payable on arrival to cover the cost of the room, advertising and expenses. If you are planning to come along, please let us know via our MeetUp Group so that we who to expect for each session.

How to find us
If coming for the first time, please allow ample time to arrive. Doors open at 6:45pm for arrivals and we start at 7pm sharp. If you arrive after 7pm, the main door of the building will be locked and you may not be able to get in.
The weekly group takes place at Woking United Reform Church in The Lounge Room. The venue is 5 minutes walk from Woking Train Station. The full address is:

Arriving on Foot
When you arrive at the church, walk in through the main entrance, past reception and then turn right up the small set of steps and go through the double doors. The Lounge is then the second room on your right.
Arriving by Train
There are 2 exits to Woking station. You will need exit on the car park side adjacent to platform 5. As you exit the station you will see a small M&S Food Store to your right. If you come out of the station on the wrong side, turn right and in about 10 meters, you will find a subway which will take you underneath the station to the car park side.
From the car park side of the station, follow the footpath round to the left and then cross over the road to continue straight ahead past Simply Fresh and Travelodge onto White Rose Lane. Continue down White Rose lane for approx. 3 minutes and then you will find the Church on your right.
Arriving by Car
The Church has a small car park however this is often very busy. Other options for parking are either on Heathside Road or in Heathside Crescent Multi-storey (charges apply).
Q: Do I have to book or sign up to anything to come along?
A: You don't need to pre-book but it would be helpful if you can let us know you are coming via the Meetup Group. The cost is £8 per session which is payable in cash on arrival.
Q: I haven't done any mindfulness or meditation before, is this group suitable for me?
A: Yes, the sessions will be a mixture of experiential mindfulness practice (which is the best way to learn) and group discussion facilitated by the teacher. The teacher will guide the meditations which means they will explain what to do while you are meditating. The group discussion provides an opportunity to hear about other people's experiences, and the teacher will help make sense of what's happening for the group. Don't worry, all will become clear and you'll get the hang of things quite quickly.
Q: Do I have to talk in the group?
A: Other than saying your name at the beginning of the session, there is never any pressure to speak within the group. During each session there is an opportunity to talk within small groups (2-3 people) and also the wider group which can be a very beneficial way of learning mindfulness, however this is always a gentle invitation and you never need to talk even in the smaller groups if you don't wish to.
Q: What will we be sitting on?
A: Seating is mainly provided in the form of upright chairs however there are a small number of meditation cushions and mats available for sitting or lying on the floor. If you have your own cushions or meditation benches, you are very welcome to bring these along.
Q: What happens in each session
A: Each session varies, but a typical session looks like:
- 5 mins - Short guided meditation to start
- 5 mins - Introduction and guidelines
- 15 mins - Guided meditation (e.g. Body awareness or breathing meditation)
- 10 mins - Small group share followed by teacher facilitated discussion in the larger group
- 15 mins - Guided meditation (e.g. Walking meditation or meditation on Sounds)
- 5 mins - Short group discussion
- 5 mins - Short closing "Informal practice" to take into your life
Attendee Suitability Guidelines
Meditation and Mindfulness are suitable for most participants; however these practices may not be suitable for those with certain pre-existing mental health conditions. Please note that this group is not suitable for people actively experiencing substance dependence, PTSD, psychosis or suicidal thoughts. If you suffer from any existing mental health conditions, please check with your doctor or specialist before coming along. In addition, please inform us of any physical, emotional or mental health issues which could affect your participation in the group via email or phone before the session. All information given will be treated in strictest confidence. Please also note that attendees must be at least 16 years age.
